SQL Saturday #177 – Silicon Valley

There is something about the Silicon Valley that attracts the innovative and creative individuals. The “misfits, rebels, troublemakers, and the round pegs in square holes” come here as dreamers and leave the valley as billionaires world changers. The Silicon Valley provides the opportunity and platform to make a difference for those who dare to dream.

On Saturday, I will be in Silicon Valley. I’m not hoping to “to put a dent in the universe.” But I’m surSQL Saturday Silicon Valleye I will leave the place equipped with a better knowledge of SQL Server.

I will be driving about ~400 miles to get there but it’s worth the drive – the event is not only FREE but also provides Quality SQL Server Training. The speakers scheduled to give sessions are well-respected individuals in the SQL Server Community.

I haven’t been good at connecting with people at the past SQL Saturday events that I’ve attended. I’m an introvert by nature; I’m quite shy in person. I “talk” a lot online but not in person. This is also one of the reasons why I’m attending this particular SQL Saturday event in Silicon Valley. I want to become a better person and a better community connector. It will start in Silicon Valley.

I may not be the first person to say “hi”. If I see you but did not say a word, that doesn’t mean I don’t like to talk to you. It’s just the introvert in me overcoming me. Please say hi if you recognize me.

I am looking forward to learning more about SQL Server. And I am looking forward to making friends.

See you there!

I’m Thankful for 978-1-84968-508-5

There are things that I’m thankful for this year. Yes, I also got a lot of setbacks but that wouldn’t make me less thankful.

I’m thankful for my family as always. No words can ever describe how thankful I am for the gift of family.

I’m also thankful for my #SQLFamily. Thank you for the gift of friendship. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge. But, mostly, thanks for the friendship.

And now, the book.

I have signed a contract with a publisher to write a book on SQL Server 2012 (dev side). I’ll provide more details as they become available.

That number at the title of this post? 978-1-84968-508-5 – yes, that’s the ISBN.

Thank you for the opportunity to write a book.

SQLskills joining Pluralsight is a good news for all

Many can boast that they were trained by Paul and Kimberly Randal at SQLskills. That company is so highly regarded in SQL Server circle that having undergone training with them is considered a great privilege.

Not all of us will have the same privilege of sitting in an Immersion Event class (IE). Finance might not always be the problem. Many just couldn’t attend because of conflict of schedule or any other logistical concern.

However legitimate that reason might be, there’s no real excuse for us for not making ourselves available for such training, specially if it’s available online.

We owe it to ourselves to become better at our craft. That is true regardless of the industry we’re in.

That is why I was stoked to learn that SQLskills is joining forces with Pluralsight to deliver quality training content to SQL Server professionals.

SQLskills is a respected authority in SQL Server training. They are known for their Immersion Events and Microsoft Certified Master Training courses. Paul and Kimberly Randal, the founders, are elites in SQL Server mastery.

When you think of SQLskills training, you think of quality SQL Server training. These phrases are almost interchangeable. I’ve never gone to any IE class. I would want to, but I just don’t have the logistics to make that happen right now.

I’m so glad that, through the Pluralsigt-SQLskills strategic content partnership, I can now equip myself with quality SQL Server knowledge to gain new SQL Server skills to better prepare myself for opportunities down the road.
